Icom Introduces Next Generation VHF Fixed Mount Radio with Active Noise Cancelling Technology and Intuitive Soft-Key Interface
25 May 2012
“The goal of the engineers at Icom was to design an intuitive, easy-to-use fixed mount VHF,” says Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager for Icom UK. “I think they have succeeded with the IC-M423. The radio’s soft-key user interface is easy to use and provides faster access to radio functions with fewer button pushes than a traditional menu-driven interface. The high definition dot matrix display allows all information to be clearly viewed. “
The IC-M423 Fixed Mount VHF/DSC Transceiver features Active Noise Cancelling Technology that can reduce background noise by up to 90%. This could be really essential for you, making you heard when you really need to, such as when the weather conditions are poor or if engines are running.
The IC-M423 is an extremely compact radio that will fit easily into any console. However, size does not mean a loss of performance. Boasting and packing a proverbial punch with its audio of 10W from its loud speaker makes sure you will clearly hear calls. The IC-M423 also has a Public Address & Fog Horn function so when attached to a hailer horn will expand the usefulness of this new radio.
The IC-M423 provides critical safety features including DSC, which allows users to send an emergency message at the push of a button. When used in conjunction with the Icom MA-500TR Class B AIS transponder, pleasure craft and fishing boats can track the location of nearby commercial vessels and fleet members. A boatowner can also transmit DSC individual calls to a selected vessel instantly without manual MMSI entry; very handy if you are waiting to contact vessels on the AIS screen, an essential safety feature in an emergency.
Popular features include 25W of power, IPX7 waterproof rating, and AquaQuake to remove water from the protective speaker grill and allow audio to be heard clearly.
A first for an Icom model this size, the IC-M423 can itself be remotely controlled by the optional COMMANDMIC. The HM-195 allows operation of all radio functions including DSC, radio, foghorn, hailer horn from the cockpit or fly bridge. The HM-195 COMMANDMIC IV also provides an intercom facility between itself and the radio. The HM-195 utilises the same user soft key interface used on the IC-M423 making control of the radio very straightforward.
The IC-M423 is available now with a suggested retail price of £297.00 (inc.VAT) and features an extended 3 year warranty for consumers if they apply online. The HM-195 COMMANDMIC is available now with a suggested retail price of £195.00 (inc.VAT).
