Raymarine sponsored Team Pulsar Racing complete the Around Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race

25 June 2010

Raymarine support of Team Pulsar Racing for the Around Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race 2010 provided the team with vital navigation input during the race.

Team Pulsar Racing’s 10m Quinquari-Humber RIB Milwaukee Seawolf and 8.5m Humber Quinquari Guardian Wolf, are both fitted out with Raymarine electronics. The Around Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race was a 12 day event, which finished on June 12 in Galway, Ireland. The race saw high-speed boats circumnavigate the emerald isle in a variety of different sea conditions, racing to see who would be victorious in class rankings and as overall winner.

The team onboard Milwaukee Seawolf came first in class and received a position of 2nd overall and Guardian Wolf also came first in class and 3rd overall.

The boats are designed to withstand racing in extremely harsh conditions, but even the best engines and strongest hulls are useless if a team gets lost or takes the wrong route. cRITICAL for any modern boat race is the navigation and communications equipment, which are vital components in offshore racing.  Team Pulsar’s on-going relationship with Raymarine has enabled the team to equip their RIBs with the latest E Series Widescreen multifunction displays.  These were invaluable to the team during the race, as Raymarine’s HybridTouch™ technology, which allows users to choose to operate the multifunction display with touch-screen or hard key, meant the rough conditions didn’t affect the navigators’ ability to use the equipment to its full capabilities.

Justin McInerney, Owner of Team Pulsar Racing and Pilot of Seawolf said “We were appointed Raymarine Ambassadors in 2010 and have continued to work with Raymarine on our boat electronics.

We look for a combination of great design, ease of use and integration, and of course the ability to withstand extreme conditions. We employ state of the art electronics on both boats using two of the latest Raymarine E140 widescreen MFD’s on Milwaukee Seawolf and the new Raymarine C140 widescreen on Guardian Wolf. The amount of information required when racing is very high and you need to be able to capture this at speed. The screens allow for this and can provide just about any data you need at a glance.”

Team Pulsar Racing will be competing in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race as well as other powerboat races throughout the year and plans are already being made for the next Around Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race in 2014.

Raymarine will be hosting an open day with CH Marine in Cork on the 9th of July, where both boats from Team Pulsar Racing will be on display to the public for the day. Visitors will be able to see the high-speed RIB’s just a few weeks after they have taken part in the recent endurance race and be able to ask questions about the boats, the equipment used and the electronics.
