GME’s GPS EQUIPPED EPIRB’s GAIN COSPAS SARSAT APPROVAL
29 March 2008
SM Group (Europe) Ltd are pleased to announce GME has just received COSPAS SARSAT approval for its GPS equipped Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons, the manually and water activated MT403G and the automatic MT403FG.
The new models incorporate a 16 Channel GPS receiver that in an emergency will allow transmission of the beacon’s latitude and longitude as well as the identification of the owner. This will result in a much faster emergency response time through the geostationary GEOSAR satellite constellation and most importantly a reduced search and rescue area, typically less than 100 metres compared to around 5 kilometres with conventional 406MHz beacons.
Kevin Turner of SM Group (Europe) Ltd commented
“This is terrific news, the approval of the GME MT403G and MT403FG beacons further strengthens the GME brand in the market with the MT410/G PLB’s and MT401/401FF NON GPS EPIRBS already selling well on both feature advantages and price competitiveness.
Now with a full beacon portfolio including manual, water and automatic activated EPIRBs, PLBs and now GPS beacons, we have a safety solution for all contingencies be it pleasure boating, commercial shipping, general aviation or land based activities.”
The MT403G and its derivative the auto-release MT403FG, will be available for sale from May this year. The MT403G will retail for around £439.00 including value added tax with the MT403FG retailing for around £629.00 including value added tax.
