Fire Service team finishes Round Ireland Challenge
17 April 2007
The Bedford and Luton Fire Service team have recently completed their gruelling charity challenge of circumnavigating Ireland in a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). Stopping at every coastal Fire Authority along the way the challenge took the team 17 days to complete. Raising over £2000 for the Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice and the Fire Service Benevolent Fund.
Phil Sutton Watch Commander for the Bedford and Luton Fire and Rescue Service said, “The radios Icom donated worked faultlessly throughout the challenge. The IC-M71 even survived a dunk in the sea when I jumped in, shame my phone didn’t cope so well!”
He went on to say, “The task would’ve so much harder without the reliable comms that Icom provided. We used the radios every day to speak with the Coastguard, to get weather reports and to communicate with Marinas and ports. Thanks Icom UK for these great radios”
