The inland waterways are becoming busier with increased commercial traffic and new pleasure craft. Many new boaters may not be fully familiar with the waterway or with traditional means of communication such as sound signals or flags. Both these factors have produced a situation where marine VHF radio on pleasure craft is becoming an essential piece of equipment leading to an improvement in safety. Garmin, has announced its new GHP 20 Yamaha steer-by-wire autopilot – a marine autopilot certified for Yamaha Helm Master Systems. McMurdo has helped save the life of a solo sailor, who was successfully rescued off the coast of Cornwall after activating his McMurdo Fast Find PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) on the 30th September.
