NEW ACCURATE AND AFFORDABLE CLEARPOINT WEATHER SOFTWARE AVAILABLE FROM MARINE ELECTRONIC SERVICES

Onboard accurate weather information and forecasting is a vital ingredient for safe navigation and passage planning.  ClearPoint is a new software programme available from Marine Electronic Services Ltd which aggregates weather data from a wide variety of sources and presents current and animated future data in an easy to understand format.  Wind, pressure, swell, sea and air temperature data is overlaid onto a background world map.  Unlike many GRIB weather data file systems, ClearPoint has a much higher resolution of data especially around coastal regions.  The system also operates globally.  In addition to animated data, weather is also gathered from aviation sources such as airports and volment transmissions as well as weather buoys, navtex and GMDSS safety at sea messages.  This allows traditional weather forecasts to be displayed in plain English as well as a 5 day forecast from weather buoy and aviation sources.

For users concerned about lightening strikes, ClearPoint can overlay lightening predictions on a global basis as well as many more sophisticated weather functions including IR thermal radar and satellite imagery, ice reports, ocean currents, chlorophyll concentrations, altimetry and bathymetry, cloud cover and visibility as well as rainfall data.

As an introductory offer, the software together with a year’s subscription costs just £99 and is available directly from Marine Electronic Services Ltd.  Annual updates are just £49 for an unlimited number of downloads.  The system can also connect to a GPS so that data is automatically shown for the boat’s current position or alternatively, a position can be manually inputted.  Data is gathered from the internet in a small, compressed file which can be easily downloaded even over satellite and mobile phone connections.

Optimised sonar sharing with new Navico Expansion Port-1

Lowrance has announced the launch of the Navico Expansion Port-1. Providing simple and quick ethernet connection to a single Lowrance echosounder/chartplotter screen, the Expansion Port-1 allows the sharing of echosounder graph displays across up to four compatible Lowrance display devices, including Lowrance chartplotter-only models.
With maximum flexibility and lightning fast speed, the Navico Expansion Port-1 is also an indispensable tool for display of broadband sounder echo clarity and underwater definition when networked with the new Lowrance Broadband Sounder-1 module.
“The Navico Expansion Port-1 offers Lowrance marine electronics and Broadband Sounder-1 owners the ultimate in configuration flexibility,” said Gordon Sprouse, Director of Marketing at Lowrance. “Users can select the Lowrance systems that best suit their needs and connect them to industry-leading sounder technology with minimal installation hassle. It’s the ideal solution for every angler and leisure boater!”
The Navico Expansion Port-1 features a 100-megabit switch for high-speed data transfers and is compatible with all 2007 and later color LCX-, LMS-, X and GlobalMap models. A free operating firmware upgrade may be required for some products. A truly scalable device, the module can be linked to other Navico Expansion Port-1 modules for future expansion. Fully waterproof to IPX7 (submersible) standards, the Expansion Port-1 has an input voltage range of 9.5 to 32 vDC and comes with a full one-year warranty.
